1. Getting to and from the Airport

• Airport Express: This is the fastest and most convenient option. The train takes about 24 minutes to get to Hong Kong Station in Central. Tickets can be purchased at the counter / machines in the airport arrival area.

• Airport Bus : A more budget-friendly option, with numerous routes covering a wide area. The journey takes about an hour but can be scenic. (Bus A17 goes to Shum Wan via ocean park)

• Taxis: Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall. Fares are metered, and taxis are categorized by color: red for urban areas. A taxi ride from the airport to Ocean Park will cost approximately HK400 to HK500.

2. Accommodation 

Hotels Near VSA

VSA is located in Wong Chuk Hang, Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island. Link to google map.

VSA has negotiated discounted corporate rates at the following hotels near the campus. To avail of the discount, please email the sales representative and mention 'Victoria Shanghai Academy' during the booking process:

We intend to provide a shuttle bus to and from the above hotels to the campus for ARWAE participants.

• Fullerton (walking distance from VSA) but we do not have official discount opportunities with them at this time. 

Other Hotel Areas

Admiralty - Central location and 2 subway stops from the closest subway station to the school (Wong Chuk Hang). Plenty of top 5-star hotel chains, including Conrad, Shangri-La, JW Marriott and Upper House. 

Wan Chai / Causeway Bay - a buzzing neighbourhood with quick and easy access to Wong Chuk Hang either via public transport or taxi. There are a range of accommodation options, a wide range of restaurants and bars in this area. 

We intend to provide a shuttle bus to and from Wong Chuk Hang MTR station for ARWAE participants.

3. General Transport around Hong Kong

Hong Kong has an excellent and efficient public transport system.

• MTR (Mass Transit Railway): The MTR is the most popular way to get around. It's a clean, safe, and intuitive underground train network that connects all major districts.

• Taxis: Plentiful throughout the city. Most taxis only accept cash.

• Trams: The iconic double-decker trams are a great way to explore Hong Kong Island for a cheap, scenic ride.

• Buses: Double-decker buses offer great views and are a good option for reaching areas not covered by the MTR.

• Ferries: The Star Ferry across Victoria Harbor provides fantastic views. Other ferries connect Hong Kong Island to the outlying islands such as Cheung Chau and Lamma.

• Uber: The Uber app can be used to book rides throughout the city.

Payment methods

Many forms of public transport in Hong Kong are starting to accept contactless credit cards, providing an alternative to the Octopus card.

The Octopus card is a contactless, rechargeable smart card used for electronic payments in Hong Kong. It was created for public transportation fares but has since expanded to be a primary payment method for many other services. You can easily get an Octopus card at the Hong Kong International Airport upon arrival. They are also available at all MTR stations, convenience stores like 7-Eleven and Circle K, and other retail outlets.

4. Things to do/see (in the evenings)

• Star Ferry's Harbour Tour: Experience the famous Victoria Harbour at dusk on a historic ferry.

• Symphony of Lights: This is a light and sound show that illuminates the buildings on both sides of Victoria Harbour every night at 8:00 PM. 

• Victoria Peak: Take the tram, bus, or Taxi to Victoria Peak for a spectacular panoramic view of the city skyline.

• Temple Street Night Market: A vibrant and bustling market in Kowloon, offering everything from trinkets to street food.

5. Areas for nightlife/restaurants

• Central & SoHo: These areas in Central are famous for their trendy bars, clubs, and restaurants. Lan Kwai Fong is known for its energetic party atmosphere, while SoHo offers a more relaxed, bohemian vibe.

Tai Kwun: This is a revitalized heritage and arts compound that was once the Central Police Station. It has a number of restaurants and bars in a unique and historic setting.

Dragonfly: Located within Tai Kwun, Dragonfly is an Art Nouveau-inspired cocktail bar with a whimsical, bohemian atmosphere.

Coa: A world-renowned bar specializing in agave spirits like tequila and mezcal. It's known for its expertly crafted cocktails and is a top destination for cocktail enthusiasts.

• Tsim Sha Tsui: This area in Kowloon offers a variety of nightlife experiences, including rooftop bars, sports bars, and sophisticated venues. Knutsford Terrace is a popular pedestrian lane lined with bars.

• Sheung Wan: Located west of Central, Sheung Wan is a more traditional area that has seen a revitalization with trendy cafes, boutiques, and art galleries. It offers a more low-key, local nightlife scene.

6. Weather and what to bring/wear (November)

Hong Kong has a subtropical climate. 

• Temperature: The average high is around 25°C (86°F) and the low is around 20°C (79°F).

• What to Wear: Layers as days can be warm and humid, but can also be cooler as this is the autumn season..

• What to Bring: An umbrella or a light rain jacket is a must due to possible rain. Bring a light jacket or sweater for evenings or for being in heavily air-conditioned indoor areas.

7. Shuttle Busses and Getting To VSA

From Arca hotel / Ocean Park Marriott: We will provide a shuttle bus to take you to VSA each morning of the ARWAE workshop. Pick up times to be confirmed

From MTR: Wong Chuk Hang. We will provide shuttle buses to take participants from Wong Chuk Hang MTR to VSA campus. Pick up times to be confirmed for each day of the conference. 

There will also be shuttle buses from VSA back to Wong Chuk Hang MTR on Saturday and Sunday - departure times to be confirmed.

VSA is about 15 minutes’ walk away from MTR Wong Chuk Hang Station Exit B. There is a public transport terminus about 5 minutes’ walk from the Campus with the following buses and minibuses:

• Citybus No. 75 from Exchange Square to Shum Wan
